The Interior Design program here in the country is offered as a baccalaureate degree by most universities and colleges. Aside from undergraduate programs, interior design education is also offered in the graduate level as MS, MA, MFA and MID. The PhD program is not common.
Having a bachelor’s degree in interior design is recommended for those who want a career in this field. After formal education training, the graduates should undergo apprenticeship for one to three years in order to gain experience. This is mandatory before sitting for the national licensing exam. The National Council for Interior Design Qualification administers the licensure examination. The eligibility requirements set by NCIDQ includes a minimum of six years of combined educational training and apprenticeship experience in the field of interior design. The 2 years should come from formal education in interior design. There are about 250 colleges and universities accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design to offer the interior design program. In addition the Council for Interior Design Accreditation provides accreditation to interior design programs leading to bachelor’s degree.

The program is offered as Bachelor of Fine Arts.

9. University of Florida

The interior design education program in the University of Florida is one of the leading programs in the nation. This program is offered to students having strong creative coupled with analytical skills and having the motivation to work with teams. This program is designed to prepare students for career opportunities in the fields of office design, retail design, healthcare design, residential design and hospitality design. The program is conferred as Bachelor of Interior Design in the undergraduate level and Master of Interior Design and a PhD in the graduate level. 8. Harrington Institute of Interior Design

The Harrington Institute of Interior Design, through its College of Design, is offering integrated and collaborative interior design program. The institute offers both undergraduate and graduate programs in interior design. The Institute and all its programs are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and they are members of the NCACS or the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

7. Fashion Institute of Technology, SUNY

The Fashion Institute of Technology of SUNY is offering its Interior Design program to students who want to be successful in this field. 6. Arizona State University

The Interior Design Program offered at the Arizona State University has produced successful interior designers in the country. The program is offered as Bachelor of Science in Design. The program is accredited by the CIDA since 1987 and the lessons are conducted at Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts.

5. Cornell University

The Interior Design program by the Cornell University is accredited by the CIDA. This interior design is the only one in the prestigious Ivy League.
